A Midsummer Nights Dream by William Shakespeare
Set Design and Construction for Nottingham Playhouse
Director: Alex Moxon, Design Partner: Katie Stephenson
Design for Shakespeare Schools Massive, a project run by the Participation Team at Nottingham Playhouse. Practitioners from the team work with over 200 children and their teachers from 11 local primary and secondary schools. Each class creates a scene from a Shakespeare play, then they come together to perform on the main stage.
The set is inspired by Greek marble columns referencing Athens, a place of law and order, while the spikes reflect the chaos found in the forest. The centre circle is inspired by the moon which is a key image throughout the play, signifying the continuing cycle of Puck's torment.
